Hiking Club Trail Description

A quiet hike on one of the park trails can yield a glimpse of a white-tailed deer or the flightof a white pelican overhead (photo p. 30). The word “shetek” is Ojibwe for “pelican.” Begin your hike at the boat ramp parking area. Hike to Loon Island via the causeway, which is popular with hikers, bird watchers and anglers. It is a great place to relax and watch the sun set. Loon Island is a favorite spot to watch or photograph birds, deer and other wildlife.
