16821 O'Brien Trail North Marine on St. Croix, MN 55047

The trail begins and ends at the visitor center. Starting out, walk aroundone of the many wetlands. In the spring, listen for chorus frogs and watch for baby goslings in the pond. Then walk through a stone tunnel under the railroad tracks. After the tracks, hike into a finger of the hardwoods that juts down into the park. Look for luscious ferns and listen for the “beebzzz-bzzz-bzzz” of the golden-winged warbler. As you leave the woodlands, take a right on the Prairie Overlook Trail. Golden prairie grasses and a spectacular view of the St. Croix River Valley are your reward for making it to the top of the hill. Continue on the trail. Take a break on the bench and see if you can see a beaver lodge and this industrious critter in or around the pond. Hike to the top of Wedge Hill and then down to the visitor center. Look for Eastern bluebirds.
